Your own stone textured vase without the price tag.

Right now stone textured vases are very popular with many different options available. The only issue is that they can be quite expensive. I already had a vase that I've been considering painting for a while and I decided that the textured look would be perfect for it. Below is how I created my own stone textured vase. This vase cost me nothing to create as I had everything already from other projects, but you can buy each of the things you need cheaply.
Things you will need:
Vase
Sand paper
Paint (any paint is fine)
Primer (make sure this is suitable for the material of your vase)
Sealant (optional)
Sharp builders sand
1 Get your vase and sand it to create a small scratches. This is important if you are using a glazed vase as your paint needs something to cling to.
2 Clean the vase.
3 Prime your vase and leave to dry.
4 Mix your base colour. You can use any paint for this. I used emulsion from a few different pots which I mixed to create the colour I wanted.
5 Add the sand to your base colour. Keep adding the sand until you achieve a rough texture that is still wet enough that it can be easily applied with a brush.
6 Paint the base paint onto the vase (outside of the vase only). Make sure you stipple away any brush strokes as stone does not have brush strokes. Leave to dry then apply a second coat.
7 Once your base is dry, it's time to build up your colours. I used these B&Q sample pots as the mini rollers are brilliant for applying the paint in random patches. Simply roll out onto some paper and then roll over the vase. Keep building up each colour in random patches until you get the desired effect. (if you don't have small rollers you can also use a sponge).
8 As I used emulsion, my vase needed sealing so it would then be easier to clean. I recommend one you can spray onto the vase as it is just easier.
9 Once the sealant is dry you are done!
