I've been looking over various videos on how to create pallet furniture but with all of them you seem to need a good few pallets just to make one sofa. I had 3 spare pallets from deliveries and I wanted to make a full lounge set just with those. So I came up with a plan and just gave it a go and successfully made two sofas and a coffee table.
You will need:
3x pallets measuring 1x1.5m
Thick length of wood
24x 6x150mm wood screws
Paint
Drill
Saw
How to build:
First you need to cut two of the pallets in half. Cut them at the point that is right next to the middle support (see video). The half with the two supports forms the seat. The half with just the end support is going to be the back.
Line up the back at a slight angle that is comfortable for sitting. Line it up so part of the back hangs over the back of the 'seat' half, giving you something to screw through.
Drill pilot holes slightly narrower than your screws. Then screw together.
Do this right through the 3 vertical pieces of wood.
Then screw through the front also, on an angle so they go through the bottom wooden support. You now have 6 screws supporting the back. Double check it feels sturdy before adding the legs
Cut the length of wood into 12, 12cm pieces.
Drill pilot holes right through them.
Attach legs to the sofas and the table. It helps to twist the legs when almost fully screwed in, to make them extra tight.
Sand if they are very rough - this was not needed here.
Paint - you need at least 3 coats. More if the pallets are coloured. You could also use a primer to make this easier.
Done.
